CNPC CEO Engr. Noel T. Florido has recently been elected as the Chairperson of DTI Region IV-A’s Coco Coir Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG). The RTWG, organized at the Coco Coir Regional Convergence Workshop held last January 31, 2017 at Queen Margaret Hotel Downtown, Lucena City, was created as an “avenue to identify and address the issues in the industry”, according to DTI.

Other members of the RTWG include the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), DPWH, DENR, DOLE, DOST, DA, DAR and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), with DTI acting as secretariat of the group. The private sectors from Laguna and Quezon were also represented by various players in the coco coir industry which include SME’s, cooperatives, and several representatives from the academe.

The Coco Coir Regional Convergence Workshop was organized by DTI Region IV-A to assess the status of the coco coir industry in the region. Its aim was to determine the issues and concerns of the industry, and subsequently come up with recommendations and courses of action.  It also reviewed the status of the bio-engineering projects of DPWH and NIA Central Office.
