CNPC CEO Engr. Noel T. Florido shared his expertise in the coco coir industry at the recently convened Coco Coir Regional Convergence Workshop held last January in Lucena, Quezon. Mr. Florido, who hails from Gumaca, Quezon, shared the ins and outs of operating as a coco coir processor and bioengineering business with the participants of the workshop which include the DTI agencies of Luzon, inter-agency partners (NIA, DPWH, DA, DAR, DENR, DOLE, DOST, PCA), coir processors, SSF beneficiaries, and other stakeholders/corporations.

Engr. Noel, who was also elected as the Chairperson of the Coco Coir Regional Technical Working Group (RTWG), started his talk on market situation and trends with an AVP about the coco coir industry. It informed the audience about the capacity of the RTWG in supporting the industry and also introduced the significant role of CNPC in bringing the processing of coconut husk to small villages via cluster operations. The AVP also includes several testimonials from local coconut farmers.

He also gave a rundown of CNPC’s client roster for 2016 and 2017, and shared some of the company’s projects including a riverbank protection, covering of an ash pond, and an embankment protection of a 1-hectare lagoon in Apalit, Pampanga using coco nets.

The Coco Coir Convergence Workshop was organized by DTI Region IV-A to assess the status of the coco coir industry in the region, determine its issues and concerns, and come up with recommendations and appropriate courses of action.  It also aimed to determine the status of the bio-engineering projects of DPWH and NIA Central Office.
